Parent Workshops

Blanton Elementary parent workshop

Engaged parents, stronger schools

Helping people become engaged and active is about building relationships. In order to create a positive relationship, it’s paramount to establish trust —especially when working with underserved communities. People who face struggles such as adapting to a new country, language barriers, and economic instability are vulnerable and stressed. Reminding them that they not only have a right to have their voices heard, but deserve a seat at the table, has a significant impact on their students’ academic success.

All parents should have the confidence and skills to help shape their child’s school experience by taking on leadership roles, aiding school policy, or creating programs that best suit their needs.

Empower U workshops give people confidence in their voice. Parents learn how to navigate systems, do research, collaborate, and take ownership. We have a presence on the campus for up to a semester,
and workshop length and curriculum can be tailored to the needs of the school and the participants. Our programs are easy for schools to implement, requiring just a little time up front to assist us in recruiting parents who are ready to take on a more active leadership role in the school community. The pay off is worth it! Studies show parent engagement results in increased academic performance, higher test scores, and better school achievement for ALL students.

Our curriculum includes:
• Understanding school structures
• Collaborating with other parents and school administration
• Becoming an ambassador for the school
• Asking the right questions and conducting research

As a partner of AISD, our workshop is available to school communities throughout the district. Complete the form below for details about how you and your school can participate.
